Like every year, let us celebrate our year by attending our annual District Conference from April 22 to 24, 2022. We will kick off the District Conference with lunch on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, California. After lunch, we will welcome our District’s Paul Harris Society members, Major Donors, and Triple Crown honorees for a Special VIP Reception at the Museum. After lunch, the Conference will transfer to the San Ramon Marriott Hotel nearby where we will open our House of Friendship. You are free to stop by and see booths with club and district projects and purchase Rotary merchandise at the vendor booths.
On Friday evening, we will have a collaborative fundraising effort between our District, the Wheelchair Foundation, and the Ana and Vlade Divac Humanitarian Organization to raise funds to support the establishment of the Mohanji Peace Center in Serbia and to ship one container of 280 wheelchairs there. “A Pathway to Peace” fundraiser will offer a VIP reception, live and silent auctions featuring National Basketball Association (NBA) Hall of Famer in Vlade Divac, former Los Angeles and Sacramento Kings star with other NBA Celebrities.
We will rise to breakfast Saturday morning, April 23, 2022, hearing from our local primary news anchor at NBC-owned KNTV in the San Francisco Bay Area in Raj Mathai, who is an honorary Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Los Altos. A twelve-time Emmy award winner and our country’s first Indian sportscaster, he will entertain us with his past interviews with high-profile newsmakers. We will be inspired by our own District Rotarian Rick King and our Rotarian friend from Taipei, Taiwan, Gary C. K. Huang with their Rotary Stories when they led our organization when they were Rotary International President. In the evening, we will have dinner honoring the current Club Presidents and past Club Presidents in our District. We will be entertained by the Interactors who will display their talent and compete for prizes.
We will open our conference on Sunday morning, April 24, 2022, when we pay tribute to our District Rotarians who have left us this Rotary year. We will close the conference with live in-person Richard D. King Speech Contest contestants vying for awards and first, second, and third place prizes.
In between meal events, we will have break-out forums with diverse topics such as the Youth Service, Rotary International Presidents, Serbian Peace Center, Wheelchairs, New Rotary Members, The Environment – Rotary Seventh Area of Focus, Wine Tasting, etc. You will be entertained by our own District Rotarian singers and bands throughout the weekend. There will be a Rotary Golf Tournament and Polio Walk as part of the District Conference. All the registration and hotel accommodation, as well as the Conference programs, are available on the District Conference website:
dc.rotarydistrict5170.org. We look forward to seeing you at the Conference, learning Rotary beyond your club, and having fun and fellowship!
