A Message from District Governor Ramesh Hariharan

Dear Fellow Rotarians from District 5170,

Sobha and I just returned after participating in a wheelchair distribution project in Monterrey, Mexico. We also visited several other projects where Rotary has contributed. There are big needs in the world, and together we can make a difference.

Many of you are new to Rotary and many more of you have been in Rotary for a long time. To involve yourself in an international project is one of the most rewarding experiences in our lives. I urge you to step out of your comfort zone and celebrate just that!

On February 1, we celebrated our first District International Expo at the beautiful Silicon Andhra facility. Numerous international projects were showcased, to the captivating accompaniment of international music and dance! We have so much diversity and talent here in our District! And by the way, this event brought in 10 new members into our District, and prospects of two new Rotary clubs!

We are continuing as #1 District in the USA for membership growth, and #1 District in the world for Rotary Foundation giving at $7.3 million!

Call to Action: District 5170 Awards:

Each year, Rotarians contribute their time, talent and treasures to the betterment of communities locally and across the globe. Recognizing those efforts is a priority of our District. Awards will be decided by a committee and will be presented at our District Conference on May 16, 2020.

Turn to Page 31 of our District Directory for a list of District 5170 Awards. Identify and let your President know about members who deserve these awards for their contributions to Membership, Foundation, Youth, Leadership, Public Image, Training, etc. Our committee will soon be seeking nomination inputs from your Presidents.

Please mark your calendars and attend these upcoming events:

  • March 14 – Community Service Day – Celebrate our outreach and partnerships. Location: DRYCO Fremont

  • April 18 – District Training Assembly - Location: Silicon Andhra, Milpitas

  • May 16 – District Conference – Casa Real Winery – Gorgeous Livermore Valley!

  • June 6-10 – International Convention in Honolulu – Aloha!

  • June 17 – A grand finale!

I am grateful to each one of you for your service above self, to make lasting change in our communities and the world.

As we celebrate another great year for Rotary in the world, let us rededicate ourselves to Service above Self. We will make lives better as Rotary Connects the World.

Another Call to Action: If you would like to discuss an idea to grow Rotary, please call me directly on my cell phone (408) 806 6217. I would love to connect with you!

Let's do it!

Cheers in Rotary service,

Ramesh Hariharan
District Governor

    Creating an Effective Rotary Club

For a Rotary Club to be effective, the key lies in its members! Without members, there is no Club - without effective members, a Rotary Club can not be effective.

The leadership team in a Club may strategize in membership development and retention, however, if members of the Club do not feel a sense of ownership and belonging, all the strategies will not be effective.
