Dear Fellow Rotarians from District 5170,
Happy 115th birthday, fellow Rotarians and members of the family of Rotary District 5170!
In the 115 years since Rotary was founded, seemingly everything has changed except Rotary values. We began, and remain, committed to our core values of fellowship, integrity, diversity, service, and leadership. While our Service Above Self motto dates to 1911, the ethos behind those words continues to define us.
As the pace of change worldwide continues to accelerate, the need for Rotary service is greater than ever. Rotary projects change lives and connect the world. And over the past six months, I have seen some amazing Rotary projects in action. Every club Sobha, Tina and I have visited, is shining bright in all the avenues of service.
I am delighted to inform you that we have done very well in the areas of membership, and our district has the highest growth in the US. Our New Channels initiative is beginning to touch new frontiers. Watch out for some exciting new club charters in 2020!
Our Total Giving to The Rotary Foundation is over $6.6M. This puts our District at the highest in the world, yes, the entire world!
It gives me great pleasure to announce the selection of Savita Vaidhyanathan as our District Governor Nominee Designate. She is from the Rotary Club of Cupertino and will be our District Governor in the Rotary year 2022-23. Cheers!

- February 1 – International Expo – We are having over 20 project tables depicting the projects from a dozen countries, plus an electrifying cultural extravaganza! Location: Silicon Andhra, Milpitas
- March 14 – Community – Celebrate our outreach and partnerships. Location: DRYCO Fremont
- April 18 – District Training Assembly. Location: Silicon Andhra, Milpitas
- May 16 – District Conference – Casa Real Winery – Gorgeous Livermore Valley!
- June 6-10 – International Convention in Honolulu – Aloha!
- June 17 – A grand finale!
As we celebrate another great year for Rotary in the world, let us rededicate ourselves to Service above Self. We will make lives better as Rotary Connects the World.
