Dear Rotarians of District 5170, This first month of July went by fast for me. The first Leadership meeting held at Quinlan Community Center, Cupertino, on July 13 was attended by 72 in person and 42 Rotarians on zoom. I was thrilled to have my family and friends in the audience! Thank you so much for bringing your positive energy to this first meeting. We heard from our Presidents, Assistant Governors, Lieutenant Governors, Chairs of Avenues of Service, DGE, DGN and our distinguished group of Past District Governors. I also announced the two projects I am supporting – one is a global project for equipment for rural women to domestically produce sanitary pads for girls in their own villages; the second, is a local community project for food security promoted by our Interact High School students. He was found “guilty” by a “jury of Rotarians” on 11 counts of achieving great goals for our District. On behalf of our Membership Chair Camilla Boolootian and Membership Attraction Chair Geeta Kadambi, I am inviting all our Rotarians to attend the in-person Membership Seminar on August 6, 2022 at the University of Silicon Andhra in Milpitas. We ended the year below 4000 members, so it will take the effort of all Rotarians to bring in more people into Rotary. If they are like you, they will make our District stronger, and help us do more good work in our community and in the world. Our PI Chair Maggie Padovani was instrumental in bringing us a phenomenal speaker, Tom Gump. Our Logistics Chair, Tina Orsi-Hartigan is organizing a nice continental breakfast and needs the numbers in advance. Register soon at https://bit.ly/D5170MembershipSeminar before we run out of space, food, and coffee! Did you know who has the honor of being the Aide to our first lady RI President, Jennifer Jones – our very own Brad Howard, Past RI Director! He is a organizing a Wheelchair trip to Monterrey, Mexico during the period October 19 to 23. More details are available in this newsletter. Check out our People of Action summits on various topics at www.RotarySummits.com. And stay tuned for information on accommodation at Melbourne for the 2023 RI Convention. Thank you all for what you do to make our world better! Salud, Shubkamnayen, Slainte! Savita Vaidhyanathan District Governor 5170 |
